Chair – Lord Curry of Kirkharle: The establishment of the NLBC is a really exciting development. For the first time ever, we have a single body which will act as a catalyst for all the other colleges and universities in the land-based sector to promote career development within the land based professions. This is a massive opportunity to professionalise the land-based industries and to do a much better job of attracting good people into those professions, because we’ll be able to see career development and career opportunities for the very first time.
CEO: The NLBC will operate in a hub and spoke way – we won’t have our own fantastic estate like we’re stood in here at Oatridge, we will work in a small office but virtually linking to the existing land based colleges and universities all across the UK. People getting dirty hands, working with animals like these horses, is fundamentally important in the land based sector, but how we can enhance that through digital technology, through films, through the use of apps and even social media – there’s massive potential that the NLBC aims to exploit.
Chair: This will be an employer led body, the courses will be designed to make sure they’re meeting employer qualification requirements. We will then promote courses for career development across all of our member colleges and universities. Those courses will be taken up in large numbers by students that are keen to make these land based professions their career of choice.
CEO: The NLBC is positioned in what I would describe as a triangle, between existing land based colleges and universities (the providers); the awarding bodies including our partner City & Guilds; and all the very many sectors within land based industries. We very much sit in the middle, joining these three points of the triangle and helping them work together to create qualifications to deliver on the skills agenda.
There’s never been a better opportunity for land based industries to really impact and drive the training and education that’s taking place in land based colleges and add value to it. I encourage you strongly if you’re in a land based sector and you care about training and education, please contact us and see how we can work together.
