Overview
This course offers the most comprehensive introduction to the many aspects of horticulture compared to all other horticulture courses we have on offer. The practical elements cover about 40% of the course and the theoretical elements about 60%. Examples of subjects taught are Plant Identification, Propagation, Turf, Garden Design, Business, Pruning, Hard-landscaping and Soil Science. The depth of this knowledge will allow candidates to access employment in the sector or to progress onto a degree course as this qualification is fully equivalent to A-levels.
Description
The course is an exciting combination of practical and theory work, both of which will provide you with the skills to enter any aspect of the industry. The course can also lead to degree level study or a career in an entry level management position. The course content offers a professional level of knowledge and understanding of modern horticulture combined with hands-on practical skills.
This is a two year course which leads to the achievement of the Technical Advanced Extended Diploma in Horticulture.
The central subjects covered over the two years include plant and soil science, plant identification and use, amenity turf, machinery use and maintenance, estate skills, tree and shrub pruning, establishing exterior plant displays, plant propagation, site surveys, landscape and garden design, landscape construction, business and project management. In total there are eighteen 60-credit units assessed through written and practical work.
