Overview
This pathway focuses on companion animals such as cats, dogs, guinea pigs, rodents, rabbits and reptiles. While the main focus is on dogs and companion animals, a full range of animals are considered in order to develop the skills to care for, handle and manage a variety of animals.
Description
This course has been designed to prepare students for a range of business and career opportunities linked to working with dogs and companion animals.

There are lectures, talks from guest speakers, visits, practical sessions in the Animal Unit and work related experience included in teh course. Students’ work is monitored continually throughout the course and is assessed by a final exam and assignment at the end of the year
Students studying at our Wakefield Centre will have the opportunity to use the Animal Management facilities at Askham Bryan College, York – free transport is provided from Wakefield for study days in York.
Students will study this course in our new Animal Management Facility and Wildlife Conservation Park. These facilities home a range of animals inlcuding reptiles, amphibians, mammals, birds, fish and invertebrates.
