Introduction to Farriery – Level 2

Course Overview
To practise as a farrier in the U.K you will need to become a registered farrier with the Farriers Registration Council (FRC).

To become registered with FRC, you will need to successfully complete a recognised Apprenticeship in Farriery, leading to a technical qualification from the WCF (worshipful Company of Farriers).

The aim of the course is to provide an introduction level of Equine and Farriery knowledge with a main element being the practical forging skills to prepare you for an apprenticeship in farriery. This course offers the expertise of our highly qualified farriery and equine tutors. To gain farriery experience you will be encouraged to organise and undertake a period of work experience with a qualified farrier, which will help reinforce your awareness of farriery as a possible career.

Please note, whilst this programme will provide the grounding for your farriery apprenticeship you will need to have achieved 5 GCSE’s including English, Maths and Science at grade 4 or above in order to be able to progress into the Farriery Apprenticeship programme. This will also be subject to having secured employment with a Training Farrier (ATF) and a successful interview.
