Overview
This pathway specialises in learning about animal health and well-being along with wildlife and their natural habitats. It has been designed especially for those learners with an interest in wildlife, ecology and conservation; whilst still developing skills to care for, handle and manage a variety of animals. The course looks at a range of British wildlife species as well as global conservation aspects.
Description
This course covers a wide range of animal related modules with a strong focus on the biology, health, welfare and husbandry of animals in the first year and a greater emphasis on wildlife and conservation in the second year.
Year one modules include:
Principles of Health and Safety, Animal Health and Husbandry, Animal Feeding and Nutrition, Animal Behaviour and Communication, Biological Systems of Animals, Animal Welfare and Breeding, Exotic Animal Health and Husbandry, Undertake Estate Skills and Business Management. Students will also need a work placement in the land-based/animal industry and gain 150 hours per year.
