Level 3
As a Crop Technician you will be responsible for optimising crop/plant yields through establishment, management, harvest and post-harvest operations, while maintaining and improving the surrounding environment.
You will also need to keep up to date with technological advances and new innovations. A Crop Technician requires self-motivation and the ability to work both independently and as a team player to complete tasks safely and efficiently.
This apprenticeship covers the core requirements of a crop technician and then choice to specialise in either ‘soil based system’ or ‘containerised systems’,
WHAT APPRENTICES WILL LEARN
Maintaining and operating machinery
Preparing growing mediums for maximum yield
Controlling pests, weeds and diseases
Harvesting techniques
Keeping accurate records
QUALIFICATIONS AWARDED
Apprenticeship Certificate
Level 3 award in emergency first aid at work
Level 2 in math and English (if applicable)
Llevel 2 award in the safe use of pesticides, and one of:
Boom sprayer, mounted, trailed or self propelled equipment
Granular applicator equipment
Handheld applicator equipment
DELIVERY MODEL
One day a week learning, skills and knowledge assessment and research work at Plumpton College (term time only). Quarterly workplace competency and efficiency observation, assessments and reviews.
