Horse Care Level 2

This course is in high demand. We would encourage you to submit an application, but please be aware that at this stage of the academic year, places are now being offered subject to availability, and we may need to support you in finding an alternative programme.

You will have the opportunity to ride a variety of horses in the schools and around the extensive campus of Merrist Wood College and to develop an understanding of the principles around why horses behave the way they do and how they have evolved.

We have excellent facilities and extremely experienced, fully qualified teaching staff. Merrist Wood Arena has one of the largest indoor surfaces in the South East holding regular British Dressage, British Show Jumping and unaffiliated dressage, show jumping and showing events. You will have the bonus of discounted entries when events are run by Merrist Wood Arena and the opportunity to help at events and lecture demonstrations. We have a modern purpose built yard catering for 42 horses and a cross country course that is used in practical equitation lessons. The equine department has fully equipped classrooms one of which can incorporate a horse for lectures when necessary.
