Overview
This course gives a general introduction to horticulture, which is suitable for anyone wanting to prepare for more advanced study or a career in horticulture, with a combination of practical and theoretical elements.
Description
Studying this course, you will learn the foundational skills for a career in horticulture – the care and use of plants for gardens, parks and food. You will learn how to work safely in a horticulture workplace.
You will learn to identify plants, how to ensure they grow and thrive outdoors, and the science that explains why a plant will do well or badly. You’ll learn the practical techniques that establish and maintain a garden, park or allotment.
Modules include:
health and safety,
plant identification,
establishment and maintenance of plants outdoors,
business and horticultural science.
The course includes lectures and classroom-based work mixed with practical sessions, giving students’ relevant practical experience and industry skills.
Students’ work is assessed through an exam and a synoptic assessment, which is a multi-part simulated business exercise
