Land-Based Studies – Level 1

This course provides an ideal introduction to land-based industries, including animal care, agriculture and equine and will help you decide if these are areas in which you would like to work. You will take part in a variety of exciting practical projects, both on the estate working with cattle, sheep and horses and in the animal care unit with a variety of animals such as rodents, reptiles and birds. There are educational visits to such places as zoological gardens, wildlife parks, farms, agricultural shows or markets.

We offer support for all students to ensure they enjoy their course and progress. Students will be able to work on the College farm with livestock and machinery, they will also work with a variety of horses and small animals. The course is divided into practical and theory lessons to allow students to gain skills and knowledge to be assessed in different learning environments.

What you could do next

Study options may include Level 2 Agriculture, Animal Care, Horse Care and Intermediate Apprenticeship in Agriculture. Employment options may include farm work, stable groom, conservation or horticulture.
